Abdomen Doppler Ultrasound

This exam requires a physician order or referral prior to beginning the exam.

These types of ultrasounds evaluate not only the anatomy of the organ of interest but also the blood flow that takes blood to that organ and away from that organ.

Abdominal Doppler ultrasound is commonly performed in the liver to evaluate portal vein, hepatic vein, hepatic artery as well as IVC and Aorta flow.

In the kidney, doppler is used to assess blood flow inside the kidney as well as blood flow to/ away from the kidney.

Abdominal Doppler PREP

Depending on the site where the arteries will be evaluated will determine what the prep for that specific ultrasound will be.

Abdominal Artery Ultrasound: You will need to be Fasting a minimum of 8 hours prior to your exam time. No food or drink is allowed.
